Oppo chose the clamshell format over the book-style format for its initial worldwide release in this market, which set it apart from all of its rivals in addition to being one of the first companies to challenge Samsung on folders. The Oppo Find N2 Flip is the end product.
It is the first Oppo device with its form factor, contrary to what its name may imply, while Samsung is now on its third generation (assuming you exclude the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, which acted in part as the Galaxy Z Flip 2). As a result, Oppo appears to have taken some audacious decisions for this significant first: a screen that is larger than Samsung’s, a screen that can fully fold,without leaving any space, a high-end chip quite unseen in Europe, the Dimensity 9000+ and a 4300 mAh battery worthy of a traditional smartphone.

Oppo Find N2 FlipDesign: first try, first success
Even if the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s lavender hue is evocative of the model we are testing, the Oppo phone understands how to set itself apart from its counterpart in a number of ways that we will explore in this article. Having said that, let’s state that the model that the Oppo designers used to create this Find N2 Flip seems to be a clear-cut source of inspiration.
It’s not so much a matter of reinventing the wheel as it is, as is frequently the case with new products, when you take on a market that is controlled by one person, of differentiating yourself by stepping aside. This is exactly how this Oppo Find N2 operates, so to speak.it from the start, has nothing to envy to its competitor in terms of finishes.
The feel in the hand is slightly different, in that the flat slices (aluminum alloy, polymer, fiberglass) are joined by the back of the phone in a slight bulge, where the Z Flip 4 chose an almost right-angle line. In addition, the Oppo Find N2 Flip looks very thin at 7.45 mm thick.
In this, the Oppo Find N2 is not unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the result is quite pleasing. Folded, the phone fits perfectly in the hand without any uncomfortable feeling. Unfolded, we discover a larger device than the Z Flip (75.2g vs. 71.9g), with a 21:9 ratio vs. the Z Flip’s 22:9, which gives a less squashed look to its screen.
This is not without a little difficulty to open it with one hand, even if the hinge seems less rigid than that of the Z Flip, making it easier to open and close. In addition, the phone is heavier than its competitor: 191g versus 187.
The hinge, let’s talk about it, has the indisputable advantage of allowing the complete closing of the device. In concrete terms, this means less dust coiled in the center of the screen. In addition, the process used for this hinge, similar to that of the Oppo Find N2, allows to erase the hollow in the screen enormously.
From the front, it must be said, the hollow is completely erased. Gone is the slight shadow that we used to live with on the Z Flip 4, especially on large white areas. If you shift your gaze a bit, you can still notice the crease slightly, but it becomes really negligible. To finish on this point, it is still a bit noticeable when you run your finger over it, even if it is much less pronounced. To finish on the hinge, let’s mention the presence of a glossy treatment with small waves of light of the most beautiful effect.
Moreover, this glossy treatment is found everywhere on the smartphone. On this point, the two colors differ from each other: the lavender color has a glossy treatment (which frankly resists fingerprints very well) and a black matte color that will appeal more to the masses. We then find this shiny aspect on the edges. The latter are thinner than on the Z Flip, which helps with the grip, but leads us to be a little less precise when it comes to putting his finger on the power button for fingerprint detection. As a result, your tester often had to go over it several times.
Finally, the phone has a dual-SIM compatible SIM drawer on the bottom edge. Unfortunately, the phone is not waterproof. However, it has an IP X4 certification, which ensures protection against water splashes in all directions. The external screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Oppo Find N2 FlipScreen: not too much to ask
The internal screen of the Find N2 Flip has a diagonal of 6.8 inches capable of alternating between 120 Hz and 60 Hz (LTPO 1) with a definition of 2520 x 1080 pixels (403 dpi). Its 21:9 ratio gives it a less squashed appearance than its main Korean competitor. In practice, this translates into less cropped videos vertically and less pronounced black bands on horizontal videos.
The external screen for its part is an Amoled too, capable of displaying 60 or 30 Hz, with a diagonal all the same huge for a secondary screen, since we are talking about 3.26 inches. For comparison, the Z Flip peaks at 1.9 inches and the first iPhone, for example, had a 3.5-inch screen (admittedly in 3:2, but still), or 36.5 cm². The external screen of the Oppo Find N2 Flip is 28.4 cm².
It is a screen that is generally quite enjoyable to use on a regular basis. The entire idea of a phone is to provide us with a big slab that fits comfortably in the pocket. The folding is utterly overlooked, as was already highlighted in the design part. There is nothing to be envious of about the very best in terms of the overall sense of fluidity and brilliance of colors.
We tested it using Portrait Displays’ CalMAN Ultimate program as evidence, and the color field coverage was both at the desired level and within acceptable limits. It shows 115% of sRGB and 101% of DCI-P3 in vivid mode, which is about appropriate. An average delta E is the outcome, which measures color fidelity – a little too high, with an average of 4.12, where one should ideally aim for 3 to hope for a color that is not too altered. This is still correct. The color temperature in bright mode is also a little too high in the blues with 7318 K, where the desired natural light is 6500 K.
In natural mode, as usual, we lose a little on the colors what we gain in accuracy. The sRGB goes to 99% and the average delta E improves a little to reach 3.46. The light is perfect with 6494 K.
On the brightness side, the measurement seems rather low with 688 cd/m². In fact, this is felt especially in sunlight, where the phone reaches the maximum brightness level very quickly. On rare occasions, I would have liked to push the slider a little further to see better, but impossible. Apart from these few inconveniences, I found the brightness sufficient, especially to avoid seeing the crease. In HDR, the brand promises up to 1200 cd/m² in global measurement.
It should be noted, however, that these measurements were made on SDR content. In HDR, the phone shows an average delta E much less accurate, rising to 8.44. The fact that the accuracy drops in HDR is very classic.
Oppo Find N2 FlipLogiciel: four years of ColorOS is yes
The Oppo Find N2 Flip runs on ColorOS 13, Oppo’s in-house interface derived from Android 13.
First observation: if, like yours truly, you’re used to seeing folding smartphones with One UI, it’s a bit disorienting in the first few hours. But it’s more for the better than for the worse: ColorOS is an excellent interface with fluid and aesthetic animations.
ColorOS has a few extra features compared to its competitors, such as the Shelf, a space for various widgets. This makes for a lighter home screen and additional features. We can also welcome the integration of Monet, the famous system inherited from Android 12 that allows you to draw from the screen background for interface colors. Oppo goes even further than Google by allowing you to choose the colors you want.
Adding to this great first impression is the fact that the phone is Oppo’s first to guarantee four years of Android updates and five years of security patches. The Widevine L1 DRM is well integrated, guaranteeing HD streaming of content from SVoD platforms.
The only downside is the presence of some bloatware, those possibly unwanted pre-installed applications. We found Netflix, Facebook and the Amazon store, nothing serious, but it does not look very clean on a phone exceeding 1000 euros.
External monitor
Now let’s take a look at the external display. Despite its larger size, it is much more limited than the Galaxy Z Flip 4 screen in terms of functionality. If this is not surprising since we are talking about a first generation, we can still regret that the manufacturer has not integrated a little more possibilities. Especially since the format really let us think that we could dream of a smartphone in miniature on the outside.
In detail, everything starts from a very effective secondary home screen. On the upper two thirds, the time, the battery icon are displayed. The lower part integrates music player when you listen to it. This economy of space gives a very pleasant airy impression and we take full advantage of the external Oled slab.
Here is what you can access from there:
- A swipe down opens the notifications ;
- A swipe up opens a shortcut pane like on any Android phone;
- A swipe to the right takes you to the widgets.
The list of widgets as mentioned above is not very long. There are :
- Camera
- Weather
- Events
- Timer
- Wireless headphone management
- Recorder
Each widget is rather aesthetic once again and blends perfectly into the screen, but we would have liked some more details. For example, it is impossible to start a call from the cover screen (even if it is possible to pick up the phone). The absence of a keyboard is also to be noted (even if it is possible to answer in voice dictation). The camera is still very effective and allows you to take selfies with the main sensors while having a large return screen.
More anecdotally, the Oppo Find N2 Flip allows you to add a small animated animal to your external screen. This one is animated differently according to certain criteria: at noon, it eats, at night, it sleeps, when the phone is out of battery, it looks tired, when it recharges, it plays sports, etc.
Oppo Find N2 FlipPhoto: the poor relation
The Oppo Find N2 integrates two rear and one front camera:
- Wide-angle: IMX890 sensor, 50MP, 1/1.56 inch,1 μm, 10-bit, 4:3, 23mm, f/1.8, 86°, 7P, AF, EIS;
- Ultra wide angle: IMX355 sensor, 8MP, 1/1.4 inch,1.12 μm, 4:3, 16mm, f/2.2, 112°, 5P, FF, EIS ;
- Selfie: IMX709 sensor, 32 Mpx, RGBW, 1/2.74 inch, 0.8 μm, 4:3, 21 mm, f/2.4, 90°, 5P, AF, EIS.
Because of the format of the phone, the selfie sensor is much less useful. One can indeed take a picture with the main camera of much better quality while having a return on the external screen.
Main sensor
The main sensor of the Oppo Find N2 Flip offers an effective sharpness and a colorimetric processing that, although a little saturated, remains reasonable. HDR is well managed, no shot taken with this phone looked burnt, the focus is mastered.
There is certainly nothing to fall out of his chair, and some will rightly find that at the price where the Oppo Find N2 Flip is sold, we can find better elsewhere in photography, but the shots have the merit of being quite usable.
Selfie
The advantage over other flagships is that here you can take self-portraits using the main sensor, which still gives the photos a different feel.
The skin is certainly a little smoothed, but the sharpness is still much higher. As a proof this comparison below: on the left, the selfie sensor, on the right the main sensor.
Ultra wide angle
The ultra wide angle is darker than its counterpart. This results in a slightly duller colorimetry.
For the rest, we find the usual loss of sharpness on the secondary camera, which makes it less attractive. Here again, the top of the range has accustomed us to ultra wide-angles really usable, so it is a rather negative point.
Night
At night, the Oppo Find N2 Flip fulfills its role: the scenes are well lit and skillfully recover the little light you give them. However, be careful not to move, the blur is quickly arrived.
Under artificial lights, the result lacks a bit of character and some lens flare is not erased, but at least you can capture the scene effectively.
At night, the ultra wide angle is generally unsuitable. This festival of artistic blurs below testifies to this.
Portrait
The portrait mode is nice, but not fantastic. If the background blur effect is mastered (minus a few strands of hair cut, the biggest problem comes from the treatment applied to the face.
Between the halo placed on the face of my colleague Cassim (admittedly angelic, but still) or the general smoothing of the skin, even with this setting at minimum.
Comparison with the Galaxy Z Flip 4
Let’s quickly focus on a point-for-point comparison with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 now, its main competitor. On the left you will find the Oppo, on the right the Z Flip.
On a portrait, first observation: the treatment is completely different. Oppo is more aggressive with a very pronounced treatment where Samsung gives in the natural. The complexion seems a little too dull on Oppo.
In selfie taken with the main camera, there is not much to complain about. Both are very close in terms of sharpness. On the other hand, there are two differences: the direction is different (the Oppo forgets to put me in the right direction) and the colorimetry is a little more saturated on the side of Samsung.
Oppo Find N2 FlipAudio: strong medium
The Oppo Find N2 Flip features Dolby Atmos-compatible stereo speakers. In practice, as is often the case in our tests, the main speaker at the base of the phone was more present than the monitor speaker above the screen.
In terms of sound quality, we were confronted with a phone leaning strongly towards the midrange, which is not unpleasant, but a little flat. The sound performance is marked by the absence of crackling, a good volume ready to serve as a small speaker. Beware, however, as the volume increased, the treble took up more and more space.
Oppo Find N2 FlipNetworks and communications
The Oppo Find N2 Flip provides very good sound quality during calls. On a busy boulevard, it manages to filter out unwanted sounds effectively, except for a few very sudden noises like car horns, only if you are talking simultaneously. When you are silent, the microphone closes effectively. The sound of the wind can also invite itself into your conversation, but without ever taking over your voice. Your voice remains clear in all circumstances.
5G phone, it integrates Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 as well as an NFC chip and a dual band GPS (L1+L5).
Oppo Find N2 Flip Price and release date
The Oppo Find N2 Flip is priced at 1099 euros in 256 GB storage version with 8 GB of RAM. Two colors are offered on the European market: glossy lavender and matte black.
