Netflix 40 new video games planned for 2023

Netflix is planning to launch 40 more video games before the end of 2023, as part of its aggressive plans to be a worldwide force in gaming, company officials told Axios.

Netflix expands its video game catalog

A little over a year ago, Netflix entered the world of video games, offering its subscribers mobile and tablet games that can be downloaded at no extra cost on iPhone and Android. Since the end of 2021, the video service has offered 55 games derived from the platform’s programs. For this year 2023, the firm expresses through the voice of Leanne Loombe, vice president of external games, its desire to amplify this activity:

This year, we’re expanding our catalog with several games each month. We’re working with the world’s leading studios to continue to bring our subscribers indie gems, award-winning hits, RPGs, interactive adventures, puzzle games and more.

As a result, 40 additional games will be offered during the year, in “all genres and formats. To date, the most popular game on the platform is High Voltage Seduction, a game based on the reality show Too Hot to Handle, which has been adapted in several countries.

A Ubisoft exclusive in April 2023

In addition, the company explains that 70 games are currently being created with partners, plus 16 other new games developed in-house.

Among the upcoming games is a Ubisoft exclusive: Mighty Quest: Rogue Palace, which is set for release on April 18, 2023. Netflix previously collaborated with the French studio on the creation of the narrative game Unknown Soldiers: Brothers in Arms, released last January.

Two Monuments Valley games are also planned for 2024, with more to follow in the wake. In addition, Netflix announced that it is working with the developer Super Evil Megacorp, on a game inspired by a future program in its catalog.

The next release announced by Netflix is the game Terra Nil, which will be released on March 28. The game is described as a “reverse city builder” in which the player is called upon to transform a world ravaged by pollution into a thriving ecological ecosystem.

Netflix wants to get into the gaming business

This development is part of Netflix’s diversification strategy to become a major player in the video game industry, as Leanne Loombe told Axios media:

Our goal is to become a world-class publisher that brings must-have games to our millions of members around the world.
